Ronald S. Rizzo

Ron was born in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Lakeshore Public Schools in St. Clair Shores. He received his B.M. degree, and his M.A. of Ed. Leadership at Western Michigan University and his Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership with Capella University. Ron spent 20 years in traditional schools directing bands for the Decatur, Springport, and Vicksburg school systems. He served as the Assistant Principal at Hastings Middle School for three years, and as Principal at Big Rapids Middle School for seven years. Ron has held a number of local and state leadership roles as both a band director and school administrator. He served as either Associate Director or Interim Director of the Charter Schools Office from June 2002 to April 2015. In April 2015 he was named Director of Charter Schools.

Duties and Responsibilities: Provides independent administrative services in order to accomplish the goals of the University pertaining to charter schools. This includes, but is not limited to coordinating the authorizing process; monitoring and overseeing the charter schools authorized by the University to assure that each is conforming to the terms and conditions of its charter Contract and State and federal laws; making recommendations to the University Board of Trustees regarding appointments to academy Boards of Directors; participating in academy evaluations; and representing the University in official charter school activities.
