New Doctor of Business Administration Program

Mr. Jerry Alley, President of William Howard Taft University is pleased to announce the launch of a new Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) program.

The Doctorate of Business Administration Program is the result of a growing demand, world-wide, for a directed independent study doctorate program to meet the needs of managers by combining the theoretical and practical aspects of operating a business. The Program is designed for mid or senior managers for immediate application to their professional duties. It examines business leadership through the eyes of those who are charged with leading their business through the challenges of the future.

New Undergraduate Business Program

Mr. Jerome Alley, President of William Howard Taft University is pleased to announce the recent approval a new undergraduate program in the School of Business.

• Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

The online Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Degree Completion Program is a directed independent study undergraduate degree program.

It is designed to benefit students who have already earned a minimum of 60 Semester credits (or an Associates Degree) from an appropriately accredited institution.

This new degree program presents the contemporary concepts and skills required in today’s modern business environments. Students have the opportunity to select a wide variety of electives that allow them to tailor the degree to their specific interests.

Doctor of Education Scholarship Winner Announced

Dr. Barry P. Resnick, Dean of William Howard Taft University’s School of Education, announced that the recipient of the institution’s Eighth Annual Roger J. Duthoy Scholarship Program is Danielle F. Lowe.

Ms. Lowe is a kindergarten teacher in the inner city school district of Middletown, New York where she strives to lay the foundation for her student’s educational future. She is currently the English Language Arts core leader where she assists in implementing the most recent research in literacy strategies and assessments.

In 2007, Ms. Lowe implemented the ‘Books for Babies’ program to promote literacy in low socio economic areas by visiting hospitals and informing new parents about the importance of reading to babies. In 2009, Ms. Lowe presented her research article Helping Children Cope through Literature at Pembroke University in Oxford, England. Ms. Lowe earned her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the State University of New York at New Paltz where she now teaches graduate courses for the Elementary Education department.

U.S. Department of Education Releases Study on Online Education

The meta-analysis of 51 study effects, 44 of which were drawn from research with older learners, found that students who took all or part of their class online performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction.

Taft University Appoints New President

Jerome F. Alley has been appointed President of William Howard Taft University. He comes to Taft with over a decade of experience in distance education. For the past four years he has served as President and CEO of a nationally accredited university.

During his career in postsecondary education, he has successfully restructured business processes to streamline activities resulting in record growth and a high levels of student retention and satisfaction.

Mr. Alley has served as an educational standards evaluator for the Distance Education and Training Council (now the Distance Education Accrediting Commission – DEAC). In 2008 he was honored by DETC as the recipient of the Distinguished Recognition Award. This award was given in recognition of his outstanding service on special projects that have contributed to the advancement of distance education.

As President he succeeds David L. Boyd who will assume the position of Chancellor of The Taft University System.

National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification

David L. Boyd, President of William Howard Taft University, announced that the University has been admitted as an Associate Member of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC).

NASDTEC is the organization that represents professional standards boards and commissions and state departments of education in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, the U.S. Territories, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario that are responsible for the preparation, licensure, and discipline of educational personnel. Associate Members include other Canadian provinces, institutions of higher education, and representatives of other constituent groups with an interest in the preparation, continuing development, and certification of educational personnel.

Boyd commented that the University looks forward to supporting NASDTEC in its goal of bringing about positive changes to the education profession.
